Overdue Reckoning on Racism in Nursing

Daniel Weinshenker September 22, 2020

Project Description

At Nurstory we believe in the telling of stories as an act of justice and agency to transform.

Starting in 2021 Nurstory began offering a supportive and safe online space to tell and share your stories of systemic and interpersonal racism in nursing - moments when we experienced or confronted or resisted or were complicit in racism in our nursing practice.

These storysharing sessions were paired with Nursemanifest's “Overdue Reckoning on Racism in Nursing” discussion and concluded with a documentary web series of interviews and stories:

Our 1.5-hour sessions include:

- A short meditation and facilitator reading

- A writing prompt to elicit reflective stories with time to respond to the prompt

- An opportunity to confidentially share those stories with each other in small groups and later with the larger group

- Support and feedback

- A future opportunity to publish your story and an accompanying photo on the Nurstory website or work with one of our facilitators to turn your story into a short movie/digital story
